Stardome Planetarium

Stardome Planetarium

As part of our preparation for Book Week next week- which this year has a space theme- some lucky classes were treated to a fascinating presentation in the Stardome Planetarium. This is an indoor planetarium, which filled our Hall!

Year 2 classes found out about the 'Big Bear' constellation in the night sky, and when they returned back to their class, they discovered that they had had a visit from 'Big Bear' who had left the children a special message (and left the class in a bit of a mess!)

Years 3 and 4 classes were asked to begin their adventure by crawling through a 'black hole' . Then they were shown the different constellations that occur in each season, linked with the Greek myths and legends, including Pegasus and Medusa. They found out that there are 88 different constellations in our night sky.Years 5 and 6 also watched a slide show on the Earth and beyond.

The children were very excited and loved the experience of the dome with its complete darkness.

Everyone agreed that today has been a special day, and we are already making plans to invite Martin and his Dome back to our school in the near future.

We are all motivated now to continue our research on Space and Astrology and creating some fun and informative books for World Book Week.
