[body] => [
The school aims to provide a broad, balanced, relevant curriculum which will enable each child to fulfil his/her potential. The school follows the National Curriculum guidelines for the core and foundation subjects.

Mathematics

Mathematics is a core subject as it develops fundamental skills and strategies for tackling everyday problems and tasks. At our school, we aim to take the fear factor out of mathematics and allow our children to develop confidence with numbers, recognising the importance of developing their skills to enable them to approach and solve real-life problems. We help our children to use and apply their mathematical skills through problem solving in number work, shape activities, measuring activities and by looking at graphs and data. We also encourage our children to develop a range of flexible strategies for mental calculations through a variety of activities, games, investigations and discussions. Most importantly, we want our children to experience the excitement of learning maths and to see that ‘Maths is Fun!!'

We believe in the importance of parents as the child's first educator and have run a number of parents courses where they work with their children to develop mathematical skills. We are committed to this initiative and would like to thank all who have taken part and look forward to working with more partents in the future.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The school is proud of its wide range of clubs and out of school activities which it offers to all age groups. These extend beyond the traditional sporting opportunities of netball and football and include amongst many

Year 6 children are usually given the opportunity to take part in a residential weekend at some appropriate venue. It is regarded as an integral part of the year's work - both academically and socially and all the children are encouraged to take part in it. Most year groups will have at least one visit per year to a place of some academic interest. Charges may be made for out of school activities in accordance with the school policy on 'Charges for School Activities'.

Government legislation requires the school to make it clear that parents are under no obligation to contribute to school visits which take place during school hours and also to state that non-payment will not preclude a child from taking part. In practice, however, since school visits must be self-financing they will only take place if sufficient voluntary parental contributions are received.
