The Arts

St Edmund's & St Thomas' is a school which values the arts and this is demonstrated in our recent award of a 'Gold Artsmark' by the Arts Council of England.

We regularly participate in the Wally Cain Dance Festival which involves pupils creating and performing contemporary dance at Southport Arts Theatre.  This is a challenging and confidence building process for the children involved.

Year 4 children are all given the opportunity to learn an instrument - from trumpets and trombones through to violins and cellos!  Parents are surprisingly supportive of their early efforts and are given the opportunity to hear their children in concert at Southport Arts Theatre as part of the Wider Opportunities Programme.

Year 5 children are working on a coastal project taking advantage of our proximity to the "Iron Men" on Crosby Beach and working together with a visiting artist.

Who can forget the visit of Granada's Superlambanana?!  This was partly in recognition of our celebrations for the 2008 Capital of Culture.

Children also thoroughly enjoy the creative mess of modrock, paints and glue, as you will see from the vibrant displays around school!  (or in their school bags at the end of term!!)
